Corgi Toy Cars – A nostalgic look at why they are worth so much

I am writing about corgi toy cars because they are one of the most collectable childhood items that are relatively easy to find and afford.

Loads of websites have content and photos, other sites allow you to buy and sell them, there are even auction sites to go to bid on them.

My first experience of Corgi cars started back in the 60's when I was a lad. I can't remember the first one, but the most memorable early model was the Green Hornet Black Beauty, which I begged my Dad for after my first tooth extraction.

Another early Corgi diecast was an early Concorde model, which I got in a department store for suffering a trip around the hat department with my mum.

A lot of these cars and 1970 toys were gifts which came as a result of a bit of suffering on my part,  but they stuck in the memory and that's why they are so special.

Everybody had lots of them back then. Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet and the Joe 90 stuff was all very much in demand, as that was all that was on TV at the time. Also the Bond films had a car, I remember the Aston Martin DB5 with the ejector seat and the rear bullet proof barrier at the back from the early James Bond movies.

My personal favorite was the Captain Scarlet SPV car with the rocket and side doors, though Lady Penelope's FAB 1 Rolls Royce was also an awesome model.

I had loads of other ones but the ordinary fire trucks or minis did not quite stick out as well as the TV or movie stuff. Sadly, like most people I have long since parted company with all the old originals.

The movie and TV cars, in my opinion were definitely the best and should be the most collectable and if they are still in their original boxes, then you have some really valuable Corgi models.

I wish I had looked after mine a lot better, like most kids we ripped the packaging open and started playing with them straight away. They all ended up smashed to bits and thrown out or lost in no time at all.

Nobody thought in years to come that they would be so valuable. If only my dad had bought two every time and put one safely hidden in the cupboard, that collection would be worth some money now and a lot more fun that all those first day of issue stamp collections.
